CITAN Hostel Tokyo Review | Rooms, Cafe and Bar

Updated October 2026

CITAN is a seven floor hostel in Tokyo’s Nihonbashi area. It combines 130 beds, private rooms, Berth Coffee on the ground floor and a basement bar with dining and DJ events.

The location works well for travellers who want a social base with direct access to Tokyo’s wider transport network. The photographs and room observations in this review come from the original visit.

Location and Transport

CITAN sits in a quieter commercial part of central Tokyo. Bakuroyokoyama, Higashi Nihonbashi and Kodemmacho stations are within walking distance.

The area is less hectic than Shinjuku or Shibuya. Even so, rail links make the main districts straightforward to reach. The hostel is also useful for travellers arriving from Narita or Haneda with light luggage.

Rooms and Sleeping Options

CITAN offers mixed and female dorms as well as several private room types. The private room photographed during the visit had a simple bed, a small desk, a chair and an industrial design.

Private rooms still use shared toilets and showers. Dorm guests receive a bed shelf, reading light and power outlet. Room rates are dynamic, so the old fixed price has been removed.

Bathrooms and Guest Facilities

Shared shower rooms and wash areas are located on the accommodation floors. The visit photographs show a compact private washbasin area and a room facing nearby buildings.

Guests can use a kitchen and common room. Coin laundry costs are currently listed at JPY 300 for washing and JPY 100 per 30 minutes for drying. Towels and other amenities may cost extra.

Berth Coffee and the Basement Bar

Berth Coffee gives CITAN an active street level entrance. The counter serves coffee and light items to hostel guests and local visitors.

Downstairs, the bar and dining space becomes more social in the evening. Music events and guest DJs are part of the identity. Noise sensitive guests should use earplugs and choose a higher room when possible.

Service and Practical Details

There is no curfew, but quiet hours run from 11pm to 8am. Same day luggage storage is free. Storage on another day is currently JPY 500.

The hostel is smoke free indoors. Maximum stays and group bookings have limits, so larger parties should contact the property before booking.

Value

CITAN offers more than a bed. The café, bar and common areas make it easy to spend time at the property and meet other travellers.

Value depends on the room type and date. Compare the final rate with a business hotel, especially if privacy and an ensuite bathroom matter more than the social atmosphere.

Things to Know Before Booking

  • Arrive before 11pm because late check in is not accepted.
  • Private rooms use shared bathrooms and showers.
  • The basement bar can create evening noise.
  • Same day cancellations may be charged in full.
  • Large groups and long stays are restricted.
