What Is the MIA Mover?
The MIA Mover is an automated electric train at Miami International Airport. It carries passengers between the airport terminal complex and the Miami Intermodal Center.
The transport centre includes the Rental Car Center and Miami Airport Station. From there, passengers can connect with Metrorail, Metrobus, Tri Rail and other ground transport services.
The MIA Mover opened in 2011. Its main purpose is to reduce road traffic around the airport while giving passengers a direct connection to rental cars and public transport.
There is no intermediate stop and no fare gate. The ride itself is short. However, reaching the station from a distant concourse can take much longer than the train journey.
Where to Find the MIA Mover
The airport station is on level 3 between the Dolphin and Flamingo parking garages. Purple airport signs point towards the MIA Mover and Rental Car Center.
Passengers arriving at baggage claim on level 1 must first use an elevator or escalator. Continue to level 3, then follow the Skyride moving walkways towards the station.
Passengers starting from the departures level also need to move up to level 3. The airport terminal is large, so allow more time when coming from the North or South Terminal.
The covered Skyride walkway is long but straightforward. Moving walkways help with luggage, and the glass corridor provides views across the airport roads and parking areas.
Our MIA Mover Experience
The route became easy to follow once we reached level 3. The walkway led directly towards the MIA Mover station without needing to go outside.
The platform had full height screen doors and enough open space for passengers with suitcases. Signs and the onboard diagram showed both ends of the route clearly.
Inside, the route map identified the South, Central and North terminals at MIA Station. It also showed the Rental Car Center and public transport connections at Central Station.
The short elevated ride removes the need for a rental car shuttle bus. It is especially helpful in Miami heat or rain because the airport side is reached through covered walkways.
MIA Mover Tickets and Price
The MIA Mover is completely free. No ticket, EASY Card or reservation is required.
Charges begin only if you use a paid connection after leaving the train. Metrorail, Metrobus and Tri Rail each have their own fares and ticket rules.
Rental car customers do not pay for the MIA Mover. The Rental Car Center is open 24 hours, although individual rental companies may close overnight. Confirm collection hours directly with the rental company.
Connections at Miami Intermodal Center
The MIA Mover arrives beside the Rental Car Center and Miami Airport Station. Clear signs direct passengers towards the different transport services.
- Rental cars: Company counters and vehicle collection facilities are inside the Rental Car Center.
- Metrorail: The Orange Line connects Miami Airport Station with locations including Earlington Heights, Downtown Miami and Dadeland.
- Tri Rail: Regional trains connect Miami with Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach County.
- Metrobus: Several local and airport bus routes leave from the transport centre.
- Regional buses: Greyhound and Megabus signs are visible within the complex.
- City trolley: The Flagami route connects near the station.

MIA Mover, Skytrain and Metromover Compared
| Service | Where it operates | Main purpose | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| MIA Mover | Airport terminal to Miami Intermodal Center | Rental cars and ground transport | Free |
| MIA Skytrain | Inside Concourse D | Travel between Concourse D areas | Free |
| Metromover | Downtown Miami, Brickell and Omni | Local transport around central Miami | Free |
The names are easy to confuse. The MIA Mover does not travel around Downtown Miami. For downtown destinations, transfer to the Metrorail Orange Line and connect onward if needed.
The MIA Skytrain is also a separate system. It serves the long Concourse D airside area and does not connect directly with the Rental Car Center.
Using the MIA Mover With Luggage
The service is designed for airport passengers, so suitcases are normal. The level 3 moving walkways reduce the effort needed to reach the station.
Keep bags close while waiting and leave space near the platform doors. Boarding is easier when passengers allow others to exit first.
The train journey is short, but the full transfer can involve a substantial walk. Travellers with reduced mobility should request airport assistance in advance if needed.

Is the MIA Mover Good Value?
Yes. The service costs nothing and replaces a road shuttle between the terminal, rental cars and public transport. It is one of the most useful ground transport features at Miami International Airport.
The main inconvenience is the walk to the station. This matters most after a long flight or with several bags. Still, the covered route and moving walkways make the transfer manageable for most passengers.
