Review of Moxy Sophia Antipolis – Highlights

• Located in the business hub of Sophia Antipolis the Moxy hotel is ideally situated to be close to key cities and villages in the South of France in a modern hotel with affordable rates. The hotel is 5 minutes from the A8 highway which brings you to Monaco in around an hour or St Tropez in an hour and a half. In between there are plenty of cities and villages such as Mougins (10 minutes), Valbonne (10 minutes), Antibes (20 minutes), Cannes (25 minutes) or Nice (25 minutes) away.
• The lobby, as is brand standard and typical with Moxy hotels acts as well as the bar, coffee counter, payment point, concierge all in one. Immediately upon entering the hotel you feel a young, hip vibe. Behind the checkin counters and bar there is a grab and go counter and fridges for snacks and drinks. The rest of the lobby is furnished with tables, loungers, work stations as well as small function or meeting rooms and a small gym.
• The hotel only has 3 floors and is relatively small at just 179 rooms. The room styles and layouts are more or less all the same, with a few rooms having patio gardens on the ground floor.
• The rooms are high tech with an HD TV, plenty of power points and USB chargers both next to the bed and next to the work station. The main focus of the rooms are the beds, which are either king or double Marriott standard bedding. The rooms feel premium and modern with comfy leather headrests on the beds.
• The pool is a major highlight of the hotel and where most of the guests will end up spending the majority of their time while on property. It features a 25 meter heated pool as well as stylish loungers. There is also an outdoor bar and bbq grill with reasonable prices such as 14 euro for grilled chicken or 16 euro for grilled fish.

• Being a Moxy the focus is all on being compact and functional. There is no closets, no mini bar but there is plenty of hangers and ways to make more out of the room by folding the work desk up or using the luggage rack.
• Likewise the bathrooms are very small, including a shower, toilet and small sink all within 1 square meter.
• The breakfast set up in the lobby is limited, continental with choice of yogurts, cheese, sliced meats, pastries, breads, spreads, waffles and a self service coffee machine. Also note that it can get quite busy especially after 8am.

• There are plenty of benefits for Marriott Bonvoy members from upgrades, early check in, late check out, free high speed internet and more. As a Marriott elite member you can choose either 500 welcome points or a 10 euro daily room credit. If you are staying more than one night, the best value would be the free daily breakfast for two.
• There is both outdoor and indoor parking provided free of charge. You can use your keycard to access the basement parking. If you have an electric car, there is a charging point in the indoor parking, however it is with the standard plug and there is only room for 1-2 cars to charge at a given time.

Moxy Hotel Chelsea Review

To dive right into the rooms, there is not much selection, with ‘upgrades’ going towards higher floors and therefore better views. Think unobstructed views of the city. The rooms are very similar but have different configurations depending on who is staying in them with king size bed or bunk bed style.

As you can see the rooms themselves are quite small with the sink and toiletries in open view of the room itself and the bathroom and shower located directly to the left when you walk in. There are two complimentary FIJI water bottles as well as soap, but no other frill amenties.

Continuing on the the actual bedroom, which is just a few steps away you can see the bed takes up about 70% of the room. Which is great if you are looking for value in terms of the most comfortable bed but not looking to spend much time in the room itself – and why would you if you are in New York City!

As you can see there is storage under the bed as well as along the walls but no cabinets or wardrobes to store your clothes. The desk is also hanging on the wall which can be taken down and assembled if you want somewhere to sit and do some emails on your computer.

Overall the quality of the furnishings are high end and clean. Everything works and is within reach. The views are also quite impressive, but depend on the actual floor you get.

From the window looking back into the room towards the entrance you can see the sink again on your left and the toilet and shower on the right side.

Do not worry that the rooms are small as on the 1st floor there is an amazing bar and comfy place to get some work done. During the day it is not too busy but it looks and feels amazing – very well designed. The hotel serves complimentary American coffee from here in take away cups all morning as well.

On the ground floor there is also a floral shop and a cafe for breakfast. Overall a great hotel – do not expect much in terms of service, but if you just need a comfy bed to lay your head in a well situated location in New York, then the Moxy Chelsea is a good bet!
