Review of The Apple Pan Restaurant – Highlights

• What is more American than burgers and fries? The Apple Pan in Los Angeles has been serving delicious steak burgers, sandwiches and pies in this quintessential 1940s style house since what feels like forever. It is consistently rated as one of the top 10 burger restaurants in Los Angeles.
• As with most popular restaurants, it is worth the wait, you’ll have to stand while one of the 26 seats on the round counter free up. At least this gives you time to see what other people order to help make up your mind, although if it is your first time the original steakburger or hickory burger is a must!
• The steak burger is made the same way since the restaurant opened its doors and is simple enough with its thousand island dressing and healthy serving of lettuce and tomatoes. The hickoryburger is similar (pictured above) though with a generous helping of sauce on top of the beef patty. The hickoryburger is decently the more unique option out of the two.
• Lastly the pies – the cream pies are very indulgent, layered with cream and fruits. The banana cream pie (pictured below) is sweet and the perfect compliment to finish off your ultimate burger experience in California.

• Customizations are possible, just let your server know how you would like it, with double cheese (Apple Pan uses tillamook cheddar) or extra pickles and they will make it happen.
• You can order drinks while you wait, just let the attendant know and they will get you some beverages. Try the Sanka coffee, a brand of decaffeinated coffee.

• Managed by the Dorchester Collection, the hotel Bel Air is one of the top 10 hotels in Los Angeles. Modern and luxurious, the hotel seeps of exclusivity. This enclave of the rich and famous head here for rest and relaxation. An oasis in the heart of Los Angeles.
• The entire property feels more like your own sprawling estate rather than a hotel or resort with staff caring for you like family and addressing you by your name. Likewise the hotel has just 45 suites and 58 room, though even the rooms are quite spacious.
• All rooms are very well appointed, designed with luxury in mind, from the soft Egyptian cotton sheets to the marble bathrooms with rainfall showers. The rooms are heavy with technology as well. From the tv above the bath, the bang and olufsen tv in the room and an iPad type controller to call for hotel services or control the lighting and ac in the room.
• The onsite Wolfgang Puck restaurant does not disappoint, the outdoor dining is small and private. You can also order the same menu pool side which is served on elevated trays. The menus are simple but the dishes are exceptionally executed and beautifully presented.
• Caring on the feeling of being at home, the Bel Air hotel bar, referred to simply as The Bar, with live music, is the ideal pre dinner watering hole to unwind before heading out in the plush seats surrounded by photographs of local celebrities.
• The surroundings and property are very lush with large trees grown over years rooted into the property alongside fountains and its own lake complete with swans that swim around gracefully.
• Hotel Bel Air’s main hang out during the day is the large heated oval pool with plush comfy day loungers circling it. Snacks given by the pool during the day such as ice cream in mini cones as well as fresh lemon aid.

• Rates at the hotel range from 650 USD to over 2,000 USD for suites and in high season.
• Since there are so many different types of rooms from deluxe room, loft studio, canyon studio, Bel Air suite, and a list of signature suites such as swan lake suite and stone canyon suite your chances of getting an upgrade to a higher room category are quite high.
• The gym at the hotel is quite small, though the areas surrounding the hotel and property itself are quite sprawling so you can walk around and enjoy the scenery with some fresh air.

• The hotel has its own S class Mercedes used to drop off or pick up guests within a 3 mile radius of the hotel. This service is complimentary and available on a first come first serve basis, just let the bell staff know and they will make the arrangements.
• Speak to the concierge about art galleries and private estates in Beverly Hills and they will arrange a private tour of closed personal collections in nearby homes. The team at the hotel is absolutely wonderful, so whatever your interests they will help tailor exceptional itineraries for you.
• When asking the staff for suggestions of where to eat in Los Angeles they of course recommended local favorite In-and-Out Burger.

• When celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain declares In and Out Burger his first stop whenever he lands in Los Angeles you know you are in for something special. This classic burger chain from the west coast delivers casual California vibes in style.
• The staff and team running the show are very friendly and welcoming, the high morale shows, as management are hired from within. Half the experience with any restaurant is the service and the team do their part to be amazing ambassadors for the brand.
• Down to the menu at In and Out – it is very simple – and to the point: burgers, fries, shakes. But that is just the start, there is a secret, or as they now call it a not so secret menu of options like double meat or triple meat called 3×3 which means 3 beef patties and 3 cheese patties. There is also something called animal style and you can ask for it with your fries or burger. You might ask what is animal style and thats a good question, it means you’ll add mustard fried into your patty or toppings with pickles, chopped grilled onions and and extra portion of the famous In-and-Out sauce.

• The brand is currently only operating in the west coast with no known plans to expand beyond this to the east coast or even internationally. Funnily enough there was a pop up in a few countries such as in Dubai (review linked here) and London. The pop up sold out in a few hours!
• The company prints bible verses on some of the packaging for example you may notice John 3:16 printed on soda cups.

Review of In and Out Burger – Tips

• Ask for light fries if you want your fries less, well, fried. If you prefer them crispier you can ask for your fries well done on the opposite spectrum – so you can customize your fries at In and Out!
• If you don’t want the carbs, ask for protein style. This comes with a lettuce wrap as your bun. Choose this as a last resort unless you really can’t as its totally worth it with the lightly toasted bun.
