The famed Tsukiji Market, while no longer the hub for Tokyo’s wholesale seafood, is still a lively haven for food lovers with its outer market brimming with vendors and stalls. The market offers a wide array of Japanese delicacies, from freshly grilled seafood skewers to handmade tamago-yaki (Japanese omelet) and flavorful sushi. Stalls serve a mix of street-food-style bites and local specialties, creating a bustling yet authentic dining experience.

Review of Tsukiji Market Tokyo – Details

Location: Japan, 〒104-0045 Tokyo, Chuo City, Tsukiji, 4 Chome, 及び６丁目一部 (google pin)
Known for: Fresh seafood, traditional Japanese street food, and market-fresh snacks

Review of Tsukiji Market Japan – Highlights

Diverse Food Stalls: Tsukiji’s outer market is filled with diverse stalls where vendors sell everything from freshly shucked oysters to grilled eel and octopus on sticks. The seafood is incredibly fresh, and each stall showcases a unique dish that captures Tokyo’s food culture. Sushi shops line the narrow lanes, with cuts of tuna, salmon, and uni (sea urchin) that taste as though they were caught hours ago.

Street Food Gems: Beyond seafood, visitors can enjoy traditional Japanese street foods like yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), onigiri (rice balls), and takoyaki (octopus-filled balls). For dessert, mochi and matcha-flavored treats are plentiful, adding a sweet touch to the culinary adventure. The market is particularly famous for tamago-yaki—a sweet, fluffy omelet on a stick, which is cooked in front of you for a unique experience.

Experience and Atmosphere: Tsukiji Market remains bustling with energy, with vendors calling out their offerings and friendly staff eager to share recommendations. Unlike large restaurants, the market stalls offer an intimate, hands-on experience where you can interact with the vendors and learn about each dish’s origins. This lively yet compact setting lets you sample various items, making it ideal for adventurous eaters.

Review of Tsukiji Market Stalls – Things to Note

Cash Preferred: Most vendors only accept cash, so come prepared with smaller bills for easy transactions. Although more and more are accepting credit card it makes it much easier and faster to pay with cash.

Early Mornings: Arriving early provides the best experience, with fresh catches and fewer crowds. Lots of vendors sell out and the best, most popular menu options sell out fast so ideally be there before 12 noon. Most shops also close by 1-2pm.

Review of Tsukiji Fish Market – Tips

Sample as You Go: Trying small items at multiple stalls allows you to experience a range of flavors without filling up too quickly.

Try the Grilled Oysters: Freshly grilled and seasoned with lemon or soy, they’re a crowd favorite and showcase the market’s seafood quality.

Los Tacos No. 1 is a standout taco spot in Chelsea Market, delivering authentic Mexican street food right in the heart of NYC. With simple, high-quality ingredients and bold flavors, this spot has quickly earned a loyal following.

Review of Los Tacos No. 1 – Details

Address: 229 West 43rd St, New York, NY 10036, United States (Google pin)

Los Tacos Chelsea Market Review – Highlights

Authentic Mexican Tacos: The menu focuses on traditional taco offerings, with choices like carne asada, adobada (spicy pork), pollo asado, and nopal (grilled cactus) for vegetarians. Each taco is packed with flavor and served on freshly made tortillas.

Fresh, Simple Ingredients: The tacos shine due to their simplicity—grilled meats, fresh veggies, and flavorful salsas, all wrapped in hand-pressed tortillas. Los Tacos No. 1 emphasizes freshness, and it’s evident in every bite.

Street Food Vibe: Located in bustling Chelsea Market, this taco stand has a vibrant, fast-paced energy that mirrors the lively taco stands of Mexico.

Review of Los Tacos New York – Things to Note

Always Busy: Los Tacos No. 1 often has long lines, especially during lunch hours, but the line moves quickly and the food is worth the wait.

Standing Room Only: The seating is limited, so most people stand or take their tacos to go.

Review of Los Tacos NYC – Tips

Go for the Adobada Taco: The marinated pork is a fan favorite, known for its juicy, perfectly spiced flavor.

Top it Yourself: Be sure to stop by the toppings bar to add fresh cilantro, onions, and salsas for that perfect personal touch.

Try the Quesadilla: If you’re looking for something heartier, the quesadilla is stuffed with cheese and your choice of meat, making for a deliciously indulgent meal.

Review of Local Fire by the Mattar Farm – Highlights

Already a popular choice in Dubai, the brainchild of Hatem Mattar, has been cooking up brisket and smoked meats for delivery since 2017. The restaurant in Time Out Market is a realization of his obsession to create the perfect meats from chorizo sausage to pastrami to mac and cheese, you’ll find all your smokehouse dreams come true here!

The most popular dish is the smoked brisket (by half pound) with mac and cheese on the side. If you want a full experience of all slices of meats and sides, you can opt for the BBQ trays, they come in small or big and include the brisket, beef ribs, chorizo as well as sides and sauces, starting from 200 AED (approx. 55 USD) up to 375 AED (approx. 102 USD).

You don’t even need to follow directions, but you should be able to smell your way to the Mattar farm by following your nose.

If you are a group of meat eaters or carnivores, then order generously as dishes from Mattar Farm will likely be some of the most popular on your table. To avoid having to wait again – as chef Mattar likes to say “don’t be stingy” in the kitchen, order up!

Review of Local Fire by the Mattar Farm – Things to Note

Due to Covid capacity limitations there can be a queue to get into the Time Out Market so if you arrive at dinner time expect to wait 10-30 minutes to enter or longer on weekends.

Local Fire by Mattar is by far one of the most popular restaurants in the Time Out Market with queues up to 45 minutes long.

The portions are regular sized so come with friends to share multiple dishes between everyone.

Word is that there will be a Time Out event pass that will allow you to pay one fee, like a Time Out Market brunch where you get a set number of dishes (to choose from any restaurants) or drinks for a set price.

Review of Local Fire by the Mattar Farm – Tips

Some of the restaurants, such as Mattar Farm have a 45 minute wait. A good hack to avoid waiting in line to order is to download the Time Out Market app on iOS or Android and you can place your order directly on the app. Make sure you have push notifications enabled to let you know when your order is ready for collection as you will not get a physical buzzer this way.

Come at off peak hours to avoid the queues as you can stay as long as you like once you are inside. There is a gorgeous outdoor terrace balcony with views over Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Fountain shows.

Review of Fulvio – Details

Address: Downtown, Souk Al Bahar – Downtown Dubai – Dubai (Google pin)
Tel: N/a
Website: Fulvios

Review of Fulvio – Video Tour

For a video walk through of Time Out Market in Dubai, please see the video below. Fulvio’s is located in the back at the left as you enter, just walk straight ahead and you will immediately notice their large cheese wheel!

Review of Fulvio – Highlights

The brain child of Orange Hospitality head chef Fulvio Opalio, his namesake, delivers high quality Italian dishes in the bustling Time Out Market Dubai. Chef Fulvio is most popular for his other restaurant In Borro Tuscan Bistro at the Jumeirah Al Naseem Hotel next to the turtle lagoon.

Fulvio Dubai recreates some of his most popular dishes in a smaller menu format without fuss such as the famous burr Ata or tagliatelle al ragu di vitello.

The risotto in for a di Parmigiano e tartufo nero is cooked and then mixed inside their large Parmesan wheel with butter and black truffle. It is one of the only places in Dubai that you can get pasta or risotto cooked in a cheese wheel. Word of caution: it is extra cheesy so diner beware!

All the pasta are made fresh in house by hand.

Review of Fulvio – Things to Note

Due to Covid capacity limitations there can be a queue outside where you have to wait 10-30 minutes to enter this Market.

The portions are small and quite pricey, testament to the quality and time it tastes to prepare each dish in the background.

Fulvio is located inside Time Out Market Dubai which is spread across 43,000 square feet and has 17 other restaurants and 3 bars inside Souk al Bahar adjacent to Dubai Mall.

Review of Fulvio – Tips

Some of the restaurants have a 45 minute wait.

Review of Pizza Al Taglio Dubai – Details

Address: Deira City Centre Level 2, Near Parking P2 – Dubai (Google pin)
Tel: +971 600 599905
Website: Pizza Al Taglio

Review of Pizza Al Taglio – Highlights

There are currently three Pizza Al Taglio Italian restaurants in the UAE, one in Mirdiff City Center, one in Abu Dhabi and the latest one, which we visited in Deira City Center. It is located inside the Food Central food hall. Food halls in Dubai are currently trending and popping up everywhere from the Point on the Palm to DIFC and Time Out Market (review linked) in Dubai Mall.

The outlet is designed in a rustic look with a large pizza oven and parmigiana regiana cheese wheels which are used live to mix in the cheese into your pasta dish!

The concept is fun and great value starting at just 26 aed (approx. 7 usd) where you can build your own pasta dish from pasta such as Tagliatelle, Fussili, and Penne to be mixed with your choice of sauce like Alfredo, Rosa, mammas pomodoro (tomato), basil pesto (image below), or sundries tomato pesto. You can then choose toppings to be mixed into your pasta such as chicken, brisket, mushrooms, roasted tomatoes, broccoli, spinach or kale.

There are not many places in Dubai that you can find pasta mixed in a cheese wheel so this concept is definitely a must try for this experience alone!

Review of Pizza Al Taglio – Things to Note

The sauce was a little bit salty but this comes down to personal preference, which most likely comes from the parmigiana cheese.

The seating in the Food Central food hall is communal, so when the area gets busy, it makes sense to secure seating while you are waiting for your dishes to be prepared.

Review of Pizza Al Taglio – Tips

Download the Majid Al Futtaim Share application called Share Rewards, where you can earn and redeem points against any outlet in the mall such as other retail outlets, restaurants, cinemas or even at the supermarket.

The restaurant offers a daily combo special for 40 aed (approx 11 usd) which includes a main dish of either pizza slice or pasta, an appetizer such as garlic bread and a soft drink.

Next to the restaurant there is outdoor seating, which is also designated for smoking, however this has views across the Dubai Creek, Downtown Dubai including the Burj Khalifa.
