Review of In N Out Burger Pop Up Dubai – Highlights

• These are very rare special pop ups that happen in selected markets outside the United States every few years. The pop up in Dubai took place on May 21st, 2021 from 11am to 2pm. There was another a few years back as well in Ibn Battuta mall as well – which is a strange location for such a prominent burger chain to open and test as it is on the edge of Dubai.
• When you enter the mall, you will see a large sign for In-N-Out Burger and the pop up is located inside Switch Bowling alley, which had been essentially rented out for the entire day by an event company who was managing the pop up for In-N-Out. There were socially distant queuing stickers on the floor and large line was forming as the pop up opened.
• Each visitor gets a lanyard or pin and wrist band (as pictured below) upon entering the pop up and the look and feel is reminiscent of a classic In-N-Out store in California, it is bright with the brands color scheme inside. At the counter you have limited menu items to choose from focusing on their famous double double and protein style (where the bun is replaced with lettuce) burgers.
• The staff on site are extremely friendly as ambassadors of this famous California burger chain.
• The prices are super affordable as the manager onsite from California mentions, they keep the prices the same as in the states, however 14 aed (approx 3.8 USD) for a double cheeseburger with everything (animal style) is extremely good value and clearly done on purpose just for promotional purposes and not to make a profit. Likewise a Coca Cola costs just 4 aed (approx 1.2 USD).
• Once you order as either dine in or take away, the food arrives within minutes and you can enjoy the delicious In-N-Out Burger without leaving Dubai. Everyone took a photo before diving in as was mandatory for this special event!

Review of In and Out Burger Dubai – Things to Note

• The pop up is only in Dubai for 3 hours, on May 26th from 11am till 2pm. It operates as a promotional stunt for the brand to keep its trade mark in the region which means it needs to do one every five years. When asked the In-N-Out manager on site in Dubai said that it is to test new markets and for market research.
• There are limited quantities for sale and the event is held on a first come first serve basis. The menu is also very limited and they do not even serve french fries, you just get regular potato chips with your order. Likewise the Coca Cola is served into a plastic cup poured by a team member directly from a can.
• There are just 4 team members from In-N-Out California present at the pop up – one at the front managing the operation and the rest in the kitchen overseeing the prep and orders. The rest of the staff are hired as part of a event management contract on behalf of the burger chain to run the pop up event.

Review of In N Out Burger Dubai – Tips

• Come early – we went at 10:50am just before opening and there was just a 30 minute queue to get in, but as we left around 11:40am the line was much longer, expect around an hour wait. So to avoid the long lines, next time you hear about an In-N-Out pop up in your city go early for the best experience, even if you aren’t entirely hungry yet!
• Buy the special pop up promotional t-shirt if there are still stocks available as they are only sold during these events and are very affordable at just 10 aed (about 2.7 USD).

• What is more American than burgers and fries? The Apple Pan in Los Angeles has been serving delicious steak burgers, sandwiches and pies in this quintessential 1940s style house since what feels like forever. It is consistently rated as one of the top 10 burger restaurants in Los Angeles.
• As with most popular restaurants, it is worth the wait, you’ll have to stand while one of the 26 seats on the round counter free up. At least this gives you time to see what other people order to help make up your mind, although if it is your first time the original steakburger or hickory burger is a must!
• The steak burger is made the same way since the restaurant opened its doors and is simple enough with its thousand island dressing and healthy serving of lettuce and tomatoes. The hickoryburger is similar (pictured above) though with a generous helping of sauce on top of the beef patty. The hickoryburger is decently the more unique option out of the two.
• Lastly the pies – the cream pies are very indulgent, layered with cream and fruits. The banana cream pie (pictured below) is sweet and the perfect compliment to finish off your ultimate burger experience in California.

• Customizations are possible, just let your server know how you would like it, with double cheese (Apple Pan uses tillamook cheddar) or extra pickles and they will make it happen.
• You can order drinks while you wait, just let the attendant know and they will get you some beverages. Try the Sanka coffee, a brand of decaffeinated coffee.

• The restaurant has moved around town quite a bit before settling in their latest home in Al Khazzan park. Hapi had its start in Al Serkal avenue in Al Quoz along side other local favorites such as Wild & The Moon and Night Jar before moving to Dubai Marina and then opening its second branch next to City Walk.
• Famous for its bone broth soups which are soul warming and delicious. You can even order them for take away in cups for the drive home or walk around the park. Hapi even sells the soups in large take away sachets to keep at home and prepare whenever you want.
• This healthy cafe in Dubai really stands out with its cool hip approach that does not use plates but instead diners are served on metal trays with wax paper, as pictured below. This makes it easier to share dishes with friends or family in a communal setting.
• Hapi founder and chef Paul Frangie uses only the best ingredients and organic whenever possible. First bite into any dish and you will immediately taste the difference.
• Must try’s include the sweet potato pancakes, acai bowl, hot smoked salmon, egg pots and no trip to Hapi is complete without one of their highly instagrammable ice cream sandwiches that are completely hand made from scratch!

• Hapi has collaborations with local chefs from time to time so message them on the number above to ask about any specials they have running as these can be wonderful. For example they had an amazing off menu chick pea curry with hummus and toasted sourdough bread running in early 2020. Hapi is one of the best vegan cafes in Dubai.
• When ordering the charcoal chicken it can either come as a breast or as chicken thighs, so if you want more meat and less on the bone specifically ask for chicken breast while ordering.

• When celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain declares In and Out Burger his first stop whenever he lands in Los Angeles you know you are in for something special. This classic burger chain from the west coast delivers casual California vibes in style.
• The staff and team running the show are very friendly and welcoming, the high morale shows, as management are hired from within. Half the experience with any restaurant is the service and the team do their part to be amazing ambassadors for the brand.
• Down to the menu at In and Out – it is very simple – and to the point: burgers, fries, shakes. But that is just the start, there is a secret, or as they now call it a not so secret menu of options like double meat or triple meat called 3×3 which means 3 beef patties and 3 cheese patties. There is also something called animal style and you can ask for it with your fries or burger. You might ask what is animal style and thats a good question, it means you’ll add mustard fried into your patty or toppings with pickles, chopped grilled onions and and extra portion of the famous In-and-Out sauce.

• The brand is currently only operating in the west coast with no known plans to expand beyond this to the east coast or even internationally. Funnily enough there was a pop up in a few countries such as in Dubai (review linked here) and London. The pop up sold out in a few hours!
• The company prints bible verses on some of the packaging for example you may notice John 3:16 printed on soda cups.

• Ask for light fries if you want your fries less, well, fried. If you prefer them crispier you can ask for your fries well done on the opposite spectrum – so you can customize your fries at In and Out!
• If you don’t want the carbs, ask for protein style. This comes with a lettuce wrap as your bun. Choose this as a last resort unless you really can’t as its totally worth it with the lightly toasted bun.

• Word is that there will be a Time Out event pass that will allow you to pay one fee, like a Time Out Market brunch where you get a set number of dishes (to choose from any restaurants) or drinks for a set price.

• Some of the restaurants, such as Mattar Farm have a 45 minute wait. A good hack to avoid waiting in line to order is to download the Time Out Market app on iOS or Android and you can place your order directly on the app. Make sure you have push notifications enabled to let you know when your order is ready for collection as you will not get a physical buzzer this way.
• Come at off peak hours to avoid the queues as you can stay as long as you like once you are inside. There is a gorgeous outdoor terrace balcony with views over Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Fountain shows.
